100% DIY: Sound Design in Films

Sound Design plays an important role in film production, especially in independent filmmaking with sensitive topics, various challenges and/or conflicted areas. In this workshop, Alex Lane, a sound designer from the movie ‘Intercepted’ will share his experience and skills through 100% DIY: Sound Design in Films, supported by the European Parliament in ASEAN. The workshop is open to film students and professional as well as regular audiences and will have limited seats to participate. In this workshop, participants will learn the importance of Sound Design and how one can apply it in filmmaking, moreover in daily life.

Alex Lane is a Canadian sound artist and musician based in Montreal. Alex’s work has shown in international festivals including; Berlinale, IFFR, Visions du Reel, Hot Docs, IDFA and Cinema du Reel. His notable works include La Laguna del Soldado (2024) and Eastern Anthems (2024), and Bedrock (2025).

Intercepted is a film that captures the eerie face of Ukrainian war from a different perspective and through recorded haunting sounds of violence. The film has received notable awards and selected in international film festivals, including a nomination of the prestigious LUX Audience Award 2025.
